Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year, so our homeschool coop decided to take the opportunity to learn a little bit about our monarch.  I hate to admit it, but we didn’t exactly put a lot of time into planning this lesson as it has been busy for all the coop families lately.  Thankfully a quick Internet search yielded some great resources and ideas.  Our projector has a new bulb, so we kicked off the weekly get-together with a YouTube Video that gave a quick overview of the major milestones Queen Elizabeth has seen in the last 60 years.

We followed this up with a hands-on time line activity and several printable resources we found on line, including a colouring sheet, word search, math problems and a multiple choice sheet.  The kids also made a sweet little pin wheel we found on-line.

To cap off the celebration in true British style, we had a little tea party and shared some delicious cake with fresh strawberries and blue berries forming the Union Jack.
